About Geography Games
Geography Games (https://geographygames.app) is a free, independent collection of browser games for learning world geography — flags, capital cities, populations, and land areas — covering all 194 UN member states.
Every mode is designed for quick, repeatable practice: guess a country from its flag, from a pie chart of its flag's colours, or from a blurred reveal; match capitals to countries in either direction; or rank countries by population and area. Each game has a continent filter so you can drill one region at a time.
How it works
There is no database and no account system. Country data is generated once into static files that ship with the site, so pages load instantly and work offline after the first visit. While a puzzle is in progress, the answer is held in an encrypted, stateless token that round-trips with each guess — the browser never sees it and the server never stores it. Your statistics live entirely in your browser's local storage.
The data
- Capitals, land areas, languages, and borders are compiled from the open world-countries dataset.
- Population figures are based on published UN data.
- Flag-colour percentages are measured, not estimated: each official flag is rasterised and every pixel counted, with anti-aliasing merged into the nearest true colour.

- Do you have an account system or save my progress online?
- No. There is no login and no server-side database. Your scores, streaks, and best times are stored only in your own browser (localStorage), so they stay on your device.
- Where does the country and flag data come from?
- Country facts (capitals, populations, land areas, languages, borders) are compiled from public datasets including the world-countries dataset and UN population figures. Flag-colour percentages are measured directly from a pixel-accurate rasterisation of each official flag, so they are exact, not estimated.
- How many countries are covered?
- All 194 UN member states are included in every game and have their own fact page.
- Can I use the data or cite the site?
- Yes. The country facts and flag-colour breakdowns are factual reference material. A link back to the relevant page is appreciated.
